class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/>You want to take a step forward, but your <strong>body physically seems to say \u2018no\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility is about more than just a sign on a wall or a post on <strong>social media<\/strong>. <br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/>It is about a more fundamental question: <em>do I dare to take my place?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For many (myself included), staying invisible has been a safe strategy for a long time.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><b>Doe maar gewoon (&#8220;Just act normal, that&#8217;s crazy enough&#8221;)<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Come to think of it, perhaps this mindset is deeply woven into our culture. In the Netherlands, we are influenced by a heritage rooted in the 16th-century teachings of the church reformer <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Calvin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johannes Calvijn<\/a>. His influence shaped a collective value of modesty and restraint, captured in the saying: <em>&#8220;Doe maar gewoon, dan doe je al gek genoeg&#8221;<\/em>. Standing out, <strong>taking up space<\/strong>, or showing yourself too much can easily feel uncomfortable, or even wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Yet today, we live in a world that often demands the opposite. Many don\u2019t seem to have a problem with that. On the inside, however, this can create a constant tension: while society asks us to show up, our inner \u2018Calvinist\u2019 warns us to stay small. These patterns are part of our <strong>embodiment<\/strong>; our history written in our posture. We pull back, collapse slightly, hold our breath, or <strong>make ourselves smaller<\/strong>. These reactions are rarely random. They often developed as ways to cope, belong, or protect ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>You might notice this in your body as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1669\">a tightening in your chest or throat<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1697\">shallow, high breathing<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1700\" data-end=\"1749\">shoulders rounding forward to protect your heart<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1752\" data-end=\"1774\">your belly pulling in<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1777\" data-end=\"1815\">a loss of grounding through your feet<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1777\" data-end=\"1815\">a struggle with <strong>feeling safe in your body<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When we feel disconnected from our body or sense a loss of control, showing up fully becomes much harder.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-avil0v-291c1ab9a1ef8135384695c9611e8e8e av_two_fifth  avia-builder-el-14  el_after_av_three_fifth  el_before_av_three_fifth  first flex_column_div  '     ><\/div><\/p>\n<div  class='flex_column av-8xmibj-854e8c96a0196d99f8a853748d14e1c1 av_three_fifth  avia-builder-el-15  el_after_av_two_fifth  el_before_av_two_fifth  flex_column_div  '     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-7fmx6n-9237e9c67294594aead0629be483c6ea '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>This hesitation to be seen often has deeper roots, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>the need for control<\/strong> &#8211; being visible means letting go of how others might see you<\/li>\n<li><strong>lack of inner connection<\/strong> &#8211; without a sense of inner space, the outside world can feel overwhelming<\/li>\n<li><strong>fear of being \u201ctoo much\u201d<\/strong> &#8211; shrinking to avoid unwanted attention<\/li>\n<li><strong>fear of your own greatness<\/strong> &#8211; as the author and speaker <u><a href=\"https:\/\/marianne.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marianne Williamson<\/a><\/u> writes, our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><b>From hiding to Presence<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\">Becoming smaller is a physical habit.<\/p>\n<p>Daring to be seen starts with softening, slowing down, and creating space from within.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Visibility is not about the spotlight. It is about <strong data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"51\">presence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>About inhabiting your body as you take your place, without escaping into your head. By exploring these patterns, your body can begin to feel safer.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">Being visible starts with being able to <em>feel<\/em> yourself.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div
